Summer Time!

Many visitors to the hill are surprised that the majority of residents DON'T have Air Conditioning. They can't imagine surviving without Air Conditioning, and often don't want to even come and visit. Locals know that even when we DO have a HOT SPELL, the most intense time is only for a few hours a day, maybe 1-3 PM. After that, it's back to tolerable, and most of the time spectacular temperatures. Still, most of us live in homes with second stories, and sometimes the heat can make you grumpy.

Share some of your ideas on how to BEAT THE HEAT.

  1. The best investment I have is a thermostat controlled ceiling fan over my bed. It allows me to let the temperature to, say 68 degrees. If it's 80 degrees in your room at the time, the fan will operate on high, until it gets to a predetermined temperature where it will lower the speed, and continue throughout the night until it reaches 68,then turn off. It's FANTASTIC!

  2. SUPER HOT? When I was rafting the Colorado River, it was so hot at night camped out next to the canyon walls that it was almost impossible to sleep. The guides instructed us to take our extra flat sheet that had been provided to every rafter, and soak it in the cold river water, then wring it out and cover yourself in the damp sheet. It acts like a swamp cooler and keeps you cool all night. By morning, it's completely dry. It really works.
